"As is virtually guaranteed with any and all wines from this unique vineyard, the Viognier has multiple dimensions, densely packed fruits, exceptional detail and extraordinary length. Pollen and candied citrus, orange creamsicle and key lime pie flavors veer into banana and papaya as it takes the palate on a roller coaster ride. As with previous vintages, this 2022 captures the fruit (both flesh and rind), botanical highlights and precision focus of the best Viogniers I've ever had. And goes the extra mile, extending the finish while adding further details of mineral, matchstick and metal. Absolutely extraordinary in every way."

"Wildly impressive, this Viognier comes from the earliest plantings in the WeatherEye Vineyard by Washington, visionary viticulturist Ryan Johnson; the fruit is fully allocated to the Liminal brand—gorgeous aromatics of lemon curd and honeyed ginger, dried meadow white flowers and Madagascar vanilla bean. The palate shows a rich texture owing to the 8 months on lees. This is an opulent white wine, but it retains a brilliance of structure and lift. Lemon oil, cake batter, and macerated peaches. This threads a needle where most domestic Viognier falls flat. It offers the richness and opulence of Viognier while remaining fresh and upright."

"Coming from the WeatherEye Vineyard this beautiful new 2022 Viognier comes from a parcel of land high atop Red Mountain. This is wonderfully textured stuff with honeysuckle water and hints of rosemary alongside rich honeydew melon and shades of juicy nectarine on the palate. Fresh and lithe with a smooth texture and great underlying tension, enjoy now and over the next eight plus years to come. Drink 2024-2032."

"The 2022 Viognier High Canyon Series WeatherEye Vineyard entices with a gorgeous blend of confectionary spice, lemon sorbet, chamomile and yellow apples. Silken and weighty in feel yet energetic and spry, this pleases the palate with its ripe orchard fruits as a saturation of salty minerals adds tactile grip. Zesty acidity keeps the mouth watering as the 2022 tapers off with medium length and vivid notes of ripe nectarine and raw almond that linger on and on. Superb."

"Fermented and aged on lees for 8 months in neutral French oak, this is a vibrantly aromatic wine, with focused notes of honeysuckle, peach, apricot, and tangerine zest – immediately identifiable as Viognier. Full-bodied, rounded, richly textured stone fruit flavors follow. The flavors are penetrating and intense but exquisitely balanced. A layered mouthfeel ups the interest, as does a long, long finish. It brings the variety’s richness, but, unlike most, it doesn’t bring the heat along with it. It’s a standout – the best Viognier I’ve had from the Washington side of the Columbia Valley. Critic's Choice."

"From a vineyard with a burgeoning cult following, this Viognier shows nuance and freshness, balancing plenty of depth. Aromas of white hawthorn flowers balanced against notes of Spanish olive skin and almond notes. The palate is fresh and lively, yet plenty phenolic. Flavours of pear skin, savoury herbs, and seaspray make way for roasted almond flavours and a depth of intensity on the finish accented by grilled lemon peel."

"While the potential for reds was obvious at WeatherEye before the first vines were planted, it’s the whites that have brought the greatest intrigue. Aged nine months in neutral oak with light bâttonage for the first three months, the aromas here offer initially subdued notes of honeysuckle, jasmine, fresh and dried herb, and white peach. The stone fruit flavors bring intensity and focus while remaining exquisitely balanced. The finish sails. It’s a complete standout offering of this variety."

"More of a whisper than a shout, but with much to say, the 2021 Viognier WeatherEye Vineyard High Canyon Series blossoms with raw almond, white flowers and candied ginger, complementing vivid apricot and lime aromas. Silky and enveloping, this washes across the palate in creamy textural waves showing ripe orchard fruits and candied citrus tones. The 2021 becomes mineral through the finale, leaving the mouth watering as savory spice nuances slowly fade. This is an outstanding interpretation of Viognier from one of the Red Mountains' most exciting locations."

"Pure, fresh and vibrant, the 2021 Viognier WeatherEye Vineyard is aromatic and delights with lively floral notes before hints of cereal grains and sautéed apples waft from the glass. The palate embraces almond skin flavors with a broad texture and succulent mouthfeel before a kiss of phenolic bitterness dances across the long, food-friendly finish, enhancing the wine's complexity. Give it a try. This Viognier aged nine months in neutral French oak."

"The gorgeous and also very generous 2020 Liminal ‘WeatherEye Vineyard’ Viognier offers sweet honeysuckle, lychee, and roasted pineapple with suggestions of ripe cantaloupe on the nose. The palate is very fresh and lively, with serious texture. The underlying salinity is truly outstanding here, as is the lip-smacking acidity that flows through the core of the Viognier. With more air this shows even wilder components of yarrow and white rose water. Enjoy at a slightly warmer temperature to take in the thrilling set of flavors and aromatics. Drink 2022-2030."

"Fruit that comes from the impeccable WeatherEye Vineyard, the 2020 High Canyon Viognier displays a golden apple core with a honey rim in the glass. It’s aged for 9 months in neutral French oak barrels to allow the fruit to shine without any distractions. Rich and decadent on the nose, it gifts fetching aromas of grilled pineapple, honeysuckle flower, honey-coated Bartlett pear, and blanched almonds. Rich and oily on the palate with elevated levels of acidity and a firm full-body mouthfeel, it gives this wonderful mushroom and earthy quality on the front palate."

"All from the WeatherEye Vineyard, the 2020 Viognier is made in a bright, juicy, almost racy style. Giving up bright green apple, tart apricot, and crushed stone notes, it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, bright, clean acidity, good balance, and solid length on the finish. This racy, vibrant Viognier will keep for 3-4 years."

"This gorgeous Viognier from Liminal (a second label from Avennia Wines' founder/winemaker Chris Peterson) is a fresh, mineral-driven stunner with just enough weight on the mid palate to remind you it’s a Viognier but without the overpowering or cloying nutmeg and floral aromas found in many other examples. The white blossom notes are there, but linger in the background, blending with notes of chalk, Asian pear, almonds and vanilla."

"Another gorgeous Viognier by winemaker Chris Peterson, this one coming from the WeatherEye Vineyard of Red Mountain and rests for 9 months in neutral French oak barrels. Aromas of honey-coated yellow pear, white flower blossoms and vanilla seeds are prominent on the nose while the luscious and rich palate delivers some tropical and toasted cashew notes with medium plus acidity, a structured and full body, and a lengthy finish. Drink 2021-2026."

"The 2018 ‘WeatherEye Vineyard’ Viognier is a stunning effort by the talented Chris Peterson. Honeysuckle and pear tones collide with smoky minerals and shades of orange blossom that all take shape in the glass. The palate is fresh and beautifully textured. Smooth throughout the drinking experience this effortlessly glides across the mid-palate. Vanilla cream and toasted hazelnut tones combine with ripe banana and mango tones giving this plenty of exotic appeal. Dense, with great viscosity, I can see this cellaring well for another eight years. Drink 2020-2027."

"This is the inaugural vintage of this wine, coming from high up on Red Mountain. Aromas of pear, peach, lees and mineral are followed by textured fruit flavors that show a strong sense of vibrancy and, dare I say, minerality. The intensity, balance and length are impressive. It focuses on lees expression and texture rather than sheer varietal purity."

"Fermented in concrete, one quarter whole cluster, then aged 18 months in large barrels, this is sophisticated, cutting edge winemaking in service to fruit from this one-of-a-kind, uniquely sited vineyard. As you might expect, it’s a stunningly great bottle of wine. My favorite Grenache over many years has been the Cayuse GOK bottling; this is its equal with less funk, more rock, and even more compact power. If you love Grenache, this is essential. Dense cranberry, raspberry and other red berry fruits, sappy acids, powerful concentration and impressive length. It’s all here for a long-lived and beautifully built bottle of wine. I finished drinking this bottle after it had been open a full three days, and it remained delicious up to the very last sip."

"The 2022 Liminal Grenache is a dense and burly style of this varietal reminiscent of some of the newer vintages of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Red cherry cordial, dried yarrow and sage and suggestions of smoldering earth all combine on the nose with Linzer torte accents. The palate is ultra-refined and elegant with serious texture and underlying tension. Salty and rich, enjoy this beautiful [wine] now and over the next ten plus years to come. Drink 2024-2036."

"A burst of chalk dust, white pepper, savory herbs and saw dust gives way to dried strawberries as the 2022 Grenache High Canyon Series WeatherEye Vineyard comes to life in the glass. Juicy to the core, this envelops the palate with silken textures, showcasing liquid violet florals and depths of ripe blackberries and spice. Seamless is the word, as the 2022 tapers of long and staining with a wild blueberry concentration that adds a tactile grip framed by silty tannins."

"From the earliest plantings in the WeatherEye Vineyard by Washington, visionary viticulturist Ryan Johnson, the fruit is fully allocated to the Liminal brand, less than an acre block of bushed-trained Grenache vines. Smoky tones open the aromatics, with notes of clove, violet florals and salted blood orange. The palate is mouthcoating in its richness. Baking chocolate with mint, an exotic spice blend, and smoky sea salt delivers loads of savoury depth. Ample fruit is present with black cherries, currant and a note of dark citrus verve. 25% whole cluster, concrete fermentation and 18 months in large format French oak."

"Fermented in concrete with 25% whole cluster, this wine was subsequently aged 18 months in large format French oak barrels. The aromas are reserved at present, bringing notes of brown stem, red fruit, cigar box, black tea, dried flower, and plum. Full-bodied, rich fruit flavors follow. It’s opulent, but the coolness of the vintage keeps it all in balance. The purity is impressive. Enjoy from 2026 to 2031. Cellar Stocker."
"I always look forward to tasting through the LIMINAL lineup with Chris Peterson. Each of the wines is made from parcels within the WeatherEye Vineyard, communicating the importance of this site. What is even more fascinating is that the first planting in WeatherEye took place in 2016, meaning that even as of 2022, we’re talking about vines that are just six years old. Just imagining what they will yield down the road is exciting, to say the least. Peterson leans into pure expression of the site with this portfolio, letting the vines speak through the glass, with a moderate amount of whole cluster fermentation and refinement in either neutral barrels or with just a tiny amount of new oak. LIMINAL is a project to watch closely in Washington State."

"The 2021 Liminal Grenache is a knockout wine from this vintage and might be the best edition of this wine that I have tasted yet. Very dark in color, this offers a brooding bouquet of purple rose petals alongside citrus zest, cardamom and shades of roasted dates, with garrigue accents. The palate is soft and refined with a seamless texture and glorious sense of length. Finishing exceedingly long with bright red fruits and herbs, this is nothing short of a stunning Grenache that has a long way to go in the cellar. Drink 2023-2037."

"From the top of Red Mountain comes Liminal's High Canyon Series, the original WeatherEye bush-trained vines—elegant floral aromatics of lavender, violet, wild ripe strawberries, desert scrub, tobacco leaf and raspberry candy. "Aged 18 months in neutral 500L puncheon, the 2021 High Canyon Series Grenache from Liminal is stunning as always. Bright neon red ruby core with a light blue rim, the nose screams Red Mountain with those telltale mountain sagebrush tones that pop from the glass alongside red cherry, sliced strawberry, lavender flower, and cedary herbs. It goes down smooth as silk despite the higher levels of alcohol, but the fine tannins and lemony acidity balance everything out. 75 cases were crafted."

"What an amazingly light and delicate texture given the wine’s hefty 15% ABV. "The 2021 Grenache WeatherEye Vineyard High Canyon Series captivates with a bouquet of violets and lavender over wild strawberries with suggestions of wet stone that add earthy depths. It's soft and enveloping, with ripe red and blue fruits dazzling over a juicy acidity core. The 2021 finishes classically dry and lightly structured, pinching at the cheeks with a primary concentration that lingers as dried blueberries fade. This is gorgeous today, yet the best is yet to come."

"Fruit for this wine comes from three micro-blocks, including the gobelet-trained ‘La Mesita’ block and two meter-by-meter echalas-trained blocks. It was aged 18 months in neutral French oak puncheons. As in previous vintages, it’s outrageously dark for the variety. The aromas offer notes of black raspberry, plum, flower, and dried herb, bringing clarity and detail. Piercingly pure, full-bodied, ripe red and blue fruit flavors follow. It shows a lot of hang time on the finish. This is a captivating, beautifully unadorned look at this variety. The sky is the limit for Grenache at this site."

"All Grenache, the medium ruby-hued 2021 Grenache High Canyon offers up solid Grenache notes of savory red fruits, peppery herbs, smoked meats, and obvious minerality. It's a medium-bodied Grenache with a supple, layered mouthfeel, ripe and integrated tannins, and a great finish. This beauty picks up more floral and spicy nuances with time in the glass, and I suspect it's going to evolve gracefully for at least 10-12 years. It plays in the more perfumed, elegant spectrum of Grenache."

"Even better, the 2020 Grenache WeatherEye Vineyard High Canyon just about jumps out of the glass with its kirsch liqueur, sappy herbs, white pepper, and floral aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, with beautiful tannins and terrific balance, it’s drinking well today yet should benefit from just 2-3 years of bottle age and evolve for 10-15 years in cold cellars. This is 100% varietal aged all in neutral oak."

"The 2020 Liminal Grenache is sourced from a .9-acre bush vine Grenache parcel at the top of the Northern slope on Red Mountain. This location produces very small, concentrated berries. The palate is rich and viscous with serious concentration and underlying finesse. The richness once on the mouth and its color is truly novel considering the varietal. Layers of bull's blood, iodine, white pepper, orange rind and generous red and dark fruits all parade on the palate. This is a very gratifying and heady wine that will easily cellar for another decade — but is nearly impossible to put down in its full-throttle youth. Give this an hour of air prior to savoring. Drink 2022-2034."

"Aged 16 months in used French oak barrels, it displays a glistening neon ruby core with a blueish rim in the glass. Lovely notes of candied black cherry, red plum skin, pencil shavings, mountain sagebrush, iron ore, saline, and dried herbs, it delivers lush depth and structure on the palate that compliments the chewy tannins and citrusy acidity nicely. "Sweetly perfumed and totally seductive, the 2020 Grenache High Canyon Series WeatherEye Vineyard, leaps from the glass with a mix of ripe strawberries, lavender and rubbed sage. "All Grenache from a higher elevation site on Red Mountain, the 2019 Grenache High Canyon Series is semi-translucent and was aged 16 months in neutral 500-liter puncheon and barrel. A vibrant, fresher Grenache, it offers pretty red fruits (strawberries, darker raspberries) as well as sappy, mountain scrub brush, pepper, and hints of chalky, mineral on both the nose and the palate. More medium-bodied on the palate, it's elegant, has plenty of tannins, and outstanding length. It's going to round into form with 2-3 years of bottle age and shine for a decade."
"A new label created by co-founders Marty Taucher and Chris Peterson, Liminal focuses on the newly planted WeatherEye vineyard located on the top of Red Mountain. "The first thing one notices about this wine is the depth of color for the variety. Coming from the Amphitheater block, the aromas pop in notes of black raspberry, rose petal, pomegranate and crushed rock. Red and black fruit flavors undulate across the palate, showing deftness, richness and detail. The finish goes on as long—longer even than one cares to count. "A study in depth and power, this Syrah from the High Canyon block in the WeatherEye Vineyard shows ample ripeness balanced by a brooding complexity. "96% Syrah is co-fermented with 4% Viognier and then aged for 16 months in 25% new French barrel and 500L puncheon. My favorite of those I tasted from the new releases from winemaker Chris Peterson and absolutely over-delivers. The color is phenomenal - deep purple with a neon ruby rim, that is a joy to swirl in the glass. Aromas of blackberry, black cherry, peppered salami and purple wildflower are all present - this Syrah is absolutely intoxicating. On the palate, flavors of black cherry, blueberry, cured bacon and green olive punch you in the face, in a good way of course. The acidity is perfect, the tannins are already starting to integrate and the finish goes on for miles. Do yourself a favor and find a bottle of this. Wait for 3-4 years and then open it on a special occasion. It’s an incredible bottle of wine. Only 100 cases produced. Highly recommended."

"The 2019 Syrah High Canyon Series is flat-out gorgeous and one of the standouts in the lineup. Beautiful ripe red and blue fruits, peppery herbs, chocolate, and spice all define the bouquet, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a round, layered, seamless profile, no hard edges, perfect balance, and a great finish. This is Red Mountain Syrah at its finest. Bravo! Top 100 Wines of 2022 - #47"

Drink after 2024, with a long life ahead of that. Cellar Selection."

"Savoury aromas carry into the palate with a mix of bacon fat, desert sage and a bit of grapefruit pith. The palate is savoury and full of flavour, with fine-grained tannin well balanced by abundant acidity that keeps the mouth watering and carries through an ultra-long finish. There is plenty of pleasure in drinking it now but the wine will benefit from decanting at this stage. It is focused, generous but not overwrought, flavourful and avoids any sense of overripeness that might be implied by the alcohol level. The wine carries the alcohol very well and is balanced. It is more ready to drink now compared with the Block 16 Syrah though the Block 16 will no doubt reveal more open expressiveness with a little more time in bottle. Delicious."

"The 2018 Liminal ‘High Canyon’ Syrah was stored for sixteen months in 25% new French oak and 50% 500L puncheons before bottling. Smoky tones and soy sauce aromatics combine with wild blackberry cordial, garrigue and shades of smoked brisket that all mingle in the glass. The palate is soft, round and generous as this effortlessly glides throughout. Rich dark figs and blackberry compote collide with Korean BBQ beef ribs, Umami and sagebrush tones on the palate. Due for release this month, it’s been given 18 months in 20% new French oak, which seems pitch perfect. The Block Highlight Series is focused on particular blocks deemed the most compelling in the vintage. Tightly wound with a mix of blackberry, black cherry, figs, tobacco, earth, espresso and more, this captivating wine should be mandatory for anyone who loves Syrah. "The first thought is "wow" while taking in the bouquet of the 2021 Syrah Block 16 WeatherEye Vineyard Block Highlight Series. This is hauntingly dark yet amazingly lifted and fresh with crushed violet and dried-citrus tones, a dusting of confectioners spice and woodland berries above nuances of scorched earth. Creamy and lifted, it possesses cooling acidity and mineral tones that further enhance its crisp blackberry fruit. Sour citrus adds contrast. While only lightly structured with fine-grained tannins, the 2021 leaves a sensation of youthful poise with mentholated herb and cacao notes. This will be an exciting wine to follow over the next ten to fifteen years. The Block 16 was refined for eighteen months in 20% new French oak, 50% puncheon."

"Weathereye at its best, and its most stubborn. This was closed for a day, giving up little more than attractive oak notes of carob and cocoa nibs. When the fruit arrives, it’s a knockout. Black and blue, silky and finessed, tethered to a minerality that brings it clarity and depth. The wine’s tannins are fine even as they are massive; overall, the structure is a marvel. "The 2020 Block 16 Syrah is aged for 16 months in 24% new French oak barrels this richer, denser, and more meaty Syrah delivers everything I love about Red Mountain Syrahs. Presenting a dark ruby-purple core with a shimmering pink rim in the glass, and gifting Red Mountain notes of spiced black plum, wild blueberry, Red Mountain sagebrush, dried violet flowers, spiced vanilla, cracked black pepper, pine forest breeze, and just a smooch of barbecued brisket, it’s a treat to behold. The palate is much leaner and tighter than the nose, but it’s only because the wine needs another 3-4 years in the bottle before you are to open it. I loved the rich, dense, and focused spicy finish. "Carries both a savoury nose and a palate with still-firm, though very fine, only lightly tactile tannin. This Syrah needs a lot of air to open and become more expressive, but then it has a lot of interest to offer – a mix of purple fruits, light floral lift and plenty of savoury, meaty and deep herbal notes. The flavours are lightly brooding but the acidity is fresh and refreshing. It will benefit from another year in bottle but not because of structural age but because the wine feels as if it is in an introspective phase and will become more open and expressive with a little additional time. This is a serious wine, well made and impressive. Nice finesse. Carries the alcohol impressively well."

"The aromas offer pretty notes of powdery violet blossoms alongside resinous herbs, dusty earth and meaty, savoury notes. An elegant, finessed palate follows. The red and blue fruit flavors offer purity, intensity, and delicacy, stretching out on the 30+ second finish. It’s outrageously delicious – a crazy-good Wow! wine. Best from 2026 to 2031. "The 2022 The Barbarous Heart was fermented with a splash of stems and is still resting in a mix of puncheons and concrete eggs. This perfumed red and black-fruited effort has a spicy, crushed stone, and herbes de Provence-like style as well as medium to full-bodied richness, a supple, elegant mouthfeel, and ripe tannins."

"The 2021 The Barbarous Heart checks in as 42% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 28% Mourvèdre that spent 18 months in neutral 500-liter puncheons and concrete eggs. It's deeper hued compared to the Grenache release and offers a gorgeous nose of ripe blackberries, ground pepper, candied violets, and crushed stone. It's rich, medium to full-bodied, has a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel, and beautiful tannins. It's another remarkable effort from winemaker Chris Peterson that offers pleasure today yet will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and shine over the following decade."

"The 2021 Barbarous Heart sports a lovely medium to dark ruby-purple core with a fluorescent purple rim and is a mélange of 42% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 28% Mourvèdre. Another stunning wine by winemaker Chris Peterson, who is quickly becoming one of my favorites in Washington State. It’s a full-bodied blend that, in a blind, you would call old-world Southern Rhone. Displaying phenomenal notes of crushed strawberries, black pepper, dried herbs, and crushed clove, it also gifts shades of sliced black olives and roasted meat, which takes up second chair. Tannins are integrated but wonderfully present alongside the perfect acidity levels and lengthy finish. 182 cases made. Highly recommended."

"The 2021 GSM The Barbarous Heart WeatherEye Vineyard grumbles up from the glass with a burst of stone dust and dried flowers that slowly evolves to reveal exotic spices and medicinal blackberry. This is surprisingly juicy and energetic within, blending crisp wild berry fruits and mineral tones with zesty acidity under an air of violet inner florals. Salted licorice, tangerine and rosemary notes linger as the 2021 leaves grippy tannins. The mouth waters through the long and structured finale. What a treat. The Barbarous Heart is a blend of 42% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 28% Mourvèdre refined for eighteen months in a combination of neutral 500L puncheon and concrete egg."

"This is a new name for the winery’s GSM, with this vintage comprised of 42% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 28% Mourvèdre. It’s aromatically expressive, with notes of huckleberry, plum, kirsch, dried herb, black and white pepper, violet, and wet rock, along with whiffs of smoked meat. Dense, opulent, full-bodied flavors follow, redolent with blue fruit flavors and speckled with spice accents. It’s got a big Yum Factor."

Blackberry jam and lemon flavors are ably supported by velvety tannins and acidity high enough to take on regenerative powers. Enjoy this wine with a beef and biscuit stew."

Meaty in texture and flavors, the savory components hit first with notes of bacon fat, crushed black olives, country road, and toasted peppercorns. That is immediately followed up with fantastic black and blue fruit with just a tad of sweet vanilla and baking spice peeking through to the finish. Another incredible effort by Chris Peterson and team. 187 cases were made. Highly recommended."

"The 2020 Liminal ‘WeatherEye Vineyard GSM’ Red Wine blends 46% Grenache with smaller parts Syrah and Mourvèdre. The wine has a lot to admire with the immediately gratifying aromatics of red currants and potpourri with white pepper dusted bacon. The palate is dense and chewy with serious depth and concentration, with a light dusting of salinity and great veil of tension throughout the drinking experience. Very salty and savory, this is seriously good stuff that is built to age. Give this an hour of air prior to enjoying. Drink 2022-2034."

"Showing nice complexity and range on the nose with a savoury mix of red and blue fruits followed by pleasing roundness on the palate. The palate includes a full mouthful of flavour carried by succulent, mouth-coating tannin that is both finessed and expressive. This is a delicious, well-balanced, beautifully made wine that also carries its alcohol impressively well. I am impressed by how much natural acidity is in these wines and how well they deliver flavour, barely revealing the alcohol. Blending serves this wine well by bringing more completeness and balance compared with the 100% Grenache wine, though the Grenache is delicious. Impressive."

"Fruit for this inaugural wine comes from a new site up and over the top of Red Mountain and down onto the north side. Grenache makes up 42%, followed by Mourvèdre (38%) and Syrah. The aromas bring notes of pomegranate, mulberry, crushed rock, savory herb and black pepper. It's a big mouthful of a wine, rich, layered and intense, with earthshaking intensity and plenty of tension. There's impressive tannin and an abundance of acidity to enliven it all. The fruit-filled finish seems near endless. It's a new benchmark for Rhône-style blends in Washington. Best after 2025."

"A stunner of a wine that is just as beautiful in the glass as it is on the nose and palate. This beautiful GSM blend of 42% Grenache, 38% Mourvèdre, 20% Syrah from the WeatherEye Vineyard in Red Mountain explodes with fragrances of fresh red cherries, black raspberries, chopped mint, dried hay and wet earth. The nose has so much complexity, showing earthiness without becoming overpowering. The experience continues as the wine hits the back of your tongue, with flavors of wild thimbleberries, chocolate covered orange peel and a hint of black-peppered salami coming from its decadent Syrah component. The palate is very multi-layered with loads of tension and robustness. Needs a few years in the bottle to settle down and will cellar for 20+ years. Highly recommended."
"Unquestionably, one of the most exciting new projects in Washington State is that of Liminal, which focuses on the newly planted WeatherEye Vineyard located at the very top of Red Mountain. A collaboration between Ryan Johnson and Cam Myhrvold, who managed the vineyard, and Marty Taucher and Chris Peterson who handle the winemaking, this is a star-studded team. As I hope the reviews show, these are awesome wines, which is even more impressive given that this is a brand new vineyard. I’ve no doubt the best is still to come as well!"

"The 2021 The Mountain Tower Vineyard Series checks in as 52% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 18% Merlot aged 20 months in 40% new French oak. Darker, iron-laced blue fruits, crushed stone, sage, and lavender notes all emerge from this rocking 2021, another brilliant wine in the lineup that has medium to full-bodied richness, stunning purity of fruit, and building tannins that need bottle age. "This wine is a blend of 52% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 18% Merlot, coming from a site along the top and north side of Red Mountain that is one of the most exciting vineyards in the U.S. Aged 20 months in French oak (40% new), the aromas are arresting, with notes of black cherry, blackberry, herb, and earth, showing crystalline purity. The palate is completely seamless, with knee-buckling balance, appearing to have no beginning, middle, or end. The finish sails on as long as you care to keep watching. It’s the exquisite balance, proportion, and length that make this wine stand out so far. Stunning stuff that is a singular offering of these three varieties from the state. Best from 2028 to 2038. "A seamless and captivating Bordeaux blend from what is clearly an iconic and unique vineyard, this combines 52% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Merlot in a broad, lush palate. Due for release this month, it’s still showing plenty of impact from the time in 40% new French oak. The fruit mix is softer and well-blended, a fruit pâté of blueberries, cherries and figs, accented with toasted nuts and sandalwood. This wine glides, it doesn’t spike, and it’s already drinking beautifully."
